Today's impulse buy
I went into Freedom today - I know, not quite 1st Dibs but hey, it's next to work and I had time to kill. Anyway - I wasn't really there to shop, but today was the last day of their sale - and a desk I had been eyeing for a little while was going back to its regular price the next day - so I took the plunge!
I'm not uber crazy about the finish or the knobs but I feel like it's something that can be tweaked in the future if the need arises..
And for less than one fifth the price of my prized Jonathan Adler desk I thought it was worth the shot - at least until I can afford the Bentley of desk world.
So there - it's arriving in two weeks with our new sofabed:

I'm thinking that if well accessorized it will make a fine addition to our "office". I would love to hear your thoughts and comments - either for reassurance - or because there still is the turning back option if you have amazing little secrets to share regarding affordable desks that ship anywhere in Australia!
Yes or no?
Floorboards for a ceiling? What do you think? I'm undecided...
I am in love with those chairs though!

Friday Fix: Grasscloth Wallpaper
I know I said I was taking a break until Monday, but when I saw this image of Kate and Jack Spade, I couldn't resist a quick Friday Fix. Grasscloth wallpaper. I have been swooning over it for years. Instant luxe! It's one of my design crushes that has turned into a lifelong love affair. I cannot wait to get my own! We won't be living in this house long enough for it to be worthwhile but in the next house, oh man!

Delightful Daily
I know I was meant to be back today for regular programming, but this week has proven to be a little crazy busy at home, work and everywhere in between so, in saying this - without being as eloquent as a certain Crystal - I will take a little blog break and be back on Monday. In the meantime, here is a touch of delightfulness.

Friday Fix: Soft Headboards
It might be sign of a long week - but I am fixating on soft and comfortable looking headboards these days. Some people call it too classic - I call it comfortable living (more on my obsession with comfort). How nice would it be to sink into one at night to read a magazine before bed. I even agreed with M to a TV in the bedroom (I hate TV's in the bedroom) - IF we had a nice soft headboard (ideally tufted). Hint!! He agreed.

Time for a bit of peeving
Ok so I've been umming and ahhing about whether to post this or not. Mainly because I am resistant to posting images I don't love on here. Savvy Home is meant to be a space for inspiration. But as the saying goes: with good design comes - well let's call it personal taste. And we must accept it. So here it goes.
I am not a huge fan of scandinavian design. Whilst I do enjoy good Scandi design in SMALL DOSES (see Marie Olssen Nylander), there is one trend I simply cannot wrap my head around. In fact, this trend really grinds my gears. Faux-fur shag rugs on chairs. Rugs are made for the floor. And frankly, those rugs are made for an Ikea showroom and nowhere else. Anyone with me?

Also, see If the Lampshade Fits for another trend I really can't stand: chandeliers wrapped in silk shades.
Back to more delightfulness tomorrow.

Trending: Seeing Double
So I've been seeing these faces on plates as artwork a lot lately (see this issue of Lonny) - and am wondering: is this a new trend? Or have they been around for a long time without me noticing?
I only had to google "faces on plates" - gotta love Google (and Wikipedia) - to find out that they are by Piero Fornasetti, an Italian painter, sculptor and interior decorator. The face painted on almost all plates is of opera singer Lina Cavalieri. Why he started painting over 500 versions of her face? His answer is simply: "I don't know. I started making the plates and never stopped". I don't know about you, but I'm sold. And knowing the history behind these plates make me want them even more. If anyone is cashed up and inclined, the plates are $230 each at Unica Home.

Designer Crush: Katie Leede
This week's designer crush goes to Katie Leede. I love how her style is current yet timeless. Even her more contemporary work feels like an instant classic. She has an acute sense of color and proportion and every space is filled to perfection. The more I look, the more I like - so look properly. And to look at more of her work, visit her website.
