Happy New Year!

Let the champagne flow and the good times roll! I hope you all have fun plans for NYE - I will be having dinner at Cafe Boulud located in The Surrey Hotel in NYC, followed by drinks and dancing in the adjacent Bar Pleiades

As the year wraps up, I want to thank each and everyone of you for stopping by every day. I am so thankful for every single visit and this blog has brought me much more that I could ever imagine. I am very excited or 2012. I can feel it will be a big year!

I'm off to New York City!

Kids, I'm off today on the last leg of my trip, and spending 3 days in NYC. I will take a few days off blogging, I hope you will excuse the absence, and I'll see you on the flip side!

Merry Christmas!

Christmas is my favorite time of the year, by far! This year is extra special because I get to spend Christmas with my family for the first time in three years. And because I’m in town, my mom’s decided to whip out all the family traditions in the book.

1- Decorating the tree: A long-time favourite of mine. Whipping out all the ornaments and decorating takes time, patience and skill. We try to update the collection by adding a few pieces each year. Mom orders the tree well in advance – no fakies, only the real thing! Let there be needles everywhere, it’s only a quick sweep fix, and it smells amazing. Of course Christmas music is imperative. My favourites this year are Michael Bublé, She & Him (Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward) and Susie Arioli.
2- Scotch Cakes: THE best holiday cookies you will ever taste. They’re basically shortbreads with vanilla icing and confit cherries on top. We decorate cookies with cherries cut into little shapes like mistletoe or other Christmasy shapes. I once got really sick from eating an entire batch in one day. That’s a whole lot of butter. I couldn’t help myself.

3- Réveillon: We celebrate on the 24th at night. It’s called the “Reveillon” in French. We have the whole shebang and turkey until the wee hours of the morning and then reconvene in the morning for Christmas brunch, topped with mimosas. Then on Christmas night, we eat Christmas dinner, which is more formal. Christmas is so wonderful, why not stretch it out over two whole days?
4- Bûche de Noël: Another French Canadian tradition. Literally translated as Christmas Log. Basically it's a giant swiss roll cake, usually hazelnut flavored, rolled in the shape of a log and decorated with Christmasy/foresty type stuff… It tastes amazing and looks pretty good too!

5- Wrapping and Unwrapping of Gifts: When there was lots of younglings in the family, we used to gather round for what seemed like hours to unwrap the mountain of gifts under the tree. Now that we’re all older, there isn't nearly as many gifts, but we still take great pride in Christmas wrapping. There is a competition between a few of us as to who will come up with the best Christmas wrapping.
I'm curious, what are your Christmas traditions?

Enjoy the Holidays everyone! X

Delightful (Christmas) Weekend

All I Want for Christmas: Sarah of A House in the Hills

Let me just start by saying this: Having Sarah here sharing her Christmas wishlist is a HUGE honor! I think I physically fell off my chair when I discovered her blog A House in the Hills (thanks Anne)! But that’s not all. Sarah (and her husband) are both supremely talented photographers. So EVERYTHING on her blog is original content (now that’s a rare occurrence): her gorgeous house, her husband, her dog Bean (he is honestly the cutest dog you will ever come across), her closet (so many beautiful clothes!!!), her travels – she really seems to do a lot in a day! Do pay her a visit – you’ll never want to leave! Oh and if you’re looking for a wedding photographer, Sarah’s your gal! See why here.

Delightful Daily: Christmas Railing

All I want for Christmas: Molly and Sally of A Piece of Toast

Molly and Sally… My favorite blogging duo! I am so thrilled to have them here today. If you haven’t been on A Piece of Toast yet, you are in for a treat! I was amazed to discover that these girls started blogging a little over a year ago, and that our blogiversaries are one day apart! You wouldn’t be able to tell that their blog is only one-year old. It’s polished, it’s gorgeous and it’s filled to the brim with the best of the best discoveries and inspiration! So it comes as no surprise that their Christmas wishlists are so amazing!

Hello Savvy Home readers - we are thrilled to be sharing our sisterly wish list with you all today as requested by the fabulous Gabrielle!  Hope you all enjoy... Maybe you'll find something you just have to add to your wish list!!  Happy holidays and be sure to visit us sometime on A Piece of Toast for more ramblings about all the things we love!!
xxoo
Molly & Sally

01. GiGi {by Graphic Image} Teddie Tote in orange: We both die for the GiGi collection from Graphic Image!  The Teddie Tote bag is the perfect size for work or errands and we wont get lost in the crowd with this vibrant and fun orange...

02. MarieBelle Aztec Hot Cocoa: This pretty tin will look chic in our kitchen and the hot cocoa inside is to die for... Add marshmallows on top and we have our perfect weeknight dessert during the cold winter season.

03. Paperwhite Kit by Restoration Hardware: Our mom always has paperwhites at our home in Kansas City during the holiday season so this year we want to bring the tradition to our apartment.  This kit seems easy to follow and we love the pretty planting bowl it comes with!

04. Candy Orb Ornaments via Anthropologie:  These chic, candy-colored globes are the perfect compliment to our already established collection of ornaments our mom started us on years ago.  They're so gorgeous we want them to hang in our apartment year round...

05. Incase Tortoise iPhone Case: Have you ever seen a prettier iPhone cover?  We haven't. This is one accessory we would mind matching - even if we end up mixing up our phones because of it!

06. Dachshund Cards, Rifle Paper Co.:  We are both puppy lovers and these Rifle cards will come in useful for all the snail mail we send to our far-away friends throughout the year.  Seriously, we don't think anyone could see this Dachshund and not smile.

07. Tarte Picture Perfect Eyelash Curler:  If these don't show up in our stockings Christmas morning you can bet we will be pouting.  Tarte's eyelash curler truly does the trick and we've been stealing our mom's while we wait for our own!

08. Indian Blanket Market Tote by Fleabags: We both love the Indian blanket bags by Fleabags but adore the shape and message of the Market Tote... Aren't the colors perfection?
09. Butter London Cuticle Oil:  We are nail polish fanatics but all that polish can leave our fingers feeling ragged - this cuticle oil from Butter London is the perfect purse size to take everywhere.

10. Butter London Rock Off Callus Remover:  Call us cheap but we prefer to perform our own pedicures in house (and with our perfect collection of polishes) rather than spending money at a salon... This Callus Remover by Butter London is a must have for both of us!

11. Sperry Top-Sider Shearwater boots via J.Crew:  These cool-colored Sperry boots have been calling our name... Even though it doesn't get all that snowy in Dallas, these boots are an investment that would last us through years and years of winters to come.

12. Tom Binns Safety Pin Earrings:  Dainty and delicate but edgy and unexpected - it's how we like our jewelry these days :)

---
Thanks for the gorgeous list ladies! Now we've all got a few more things to add on ours! X

PS - I'll be mostly offline from today until the 3rd of January - we will be in the country for Christmas with probably little to no internet connection and then we're off to New York for the New Year! I have a few more good things planned for you, but I might be taking a few days off between now and then. I'm sure you all have better things to do during the Holidays anyway!

Delightful Daily: Tonal in the Hallway

All I Want for Christmas: Erika of Small Shop

Here’s another savvy lady I recently visited. Erika AMAZES me (mark my words). She has a beautiful blog Shop Talk, a successful business and a gorgeous family! Everything about Erika is stylish beyond belief, yet she is one of the nicest, most approachable person I've met on the 'sphere. It’s no surprise that her blog has grown to an incredible following in a short period of time. Read it once and you will be hooked too! It’s an honor to be sharing her wishlist with you today.
Hello Savvy people! It's Erika from small shop sharing my "a girl can dream" wish list. I have to say if ever there was a gift guide that would make me drool, it would be this one. Think of it as an ultimate lust list...but with one realistic item so I don't leave empty-handed.
[ 1 ] Milo Baughman chair I'll take any of his barrel-back designs, merci. [ 2 ] Chloé parfum I hear it lasts all day and isn't overpowering. Really hoping I get this one (hear that, Santa?) [ 3 ] diamond stud earrings Classic, wear with anything...someday... [ 4 ] Cartier Love bracelet Who wouldn't want one? [ 5 ] Burberry trench coat I'm still holding out hope. [ 6 ] Hermès Avalon throw I've seen some on eBay! [ 7 ] James Nares painting A quintessential piece of our time [ 8 ] Hermes scarf I think I'm putting this on next year's list...it's about time. [ 9 ] Christian Louboutin pumps Don't get me started, I cannot believe I don't own any CL's at the mo [ 10 ] Chloe Marcie bag The "it" bag, and it might just be perfect [ 11 ] Desiron coffee table Milo-Baughman-esque, and oh-so-me.

Thanks for having me Gabrielle! It sure was fun to dream big!

What a gorgeous round up. I am floored! Thanks for sharing Erika! X

All I Want for Christmas: Gaby of The Vault Files

I discovered Gaby's blog The Vault Files recently and literally fell off my chair. Gaby and I have freakish similarities like our names, our Canadian heritage, our expat status (she lives not too far away in New Caledonia), our taste in mostly everything, and our obsession with making too many lists. Bottom line, if you like me, you'll love her!
Hi everyone! I'm Gaby from The Vault Files and I'm thrilled to be here at Savvy Home sharing my Holiday wishlist with all of you while Gabrielle enjoys the Holidays back in Montreal with her family. As a Canadian expat living in an island close to Australia, I know by experience how wonderful it is to go back to your loved ones, especially at this time of the year, so I hope she enjoys her time (and the snow) there to the max!

Come anytime to say hello, I love making new friends!
One: Madewell The Patent Tap Oxford: I have an obsession with oxfords and when I saw these my jaw dropped, aren't they gorgeous?
Two:Michael Kors Watch, Burberry Watch, Coach Watch: I really need a new watch and I would be very happy with any of these.
Three: Canon SLR camera: I think this is one of the things on the very top of my list, I NEED a new camera, badly!!
Four: Ariel Gordon Initial Pendant: This has also been on my wishlist forever, great for layering different pendants!
Five: Doloris Petunia One of a kind earrings: I recently came across these earrings while putting together a gift guide and immediately fell in love, aren't they stunning?
Six: Westward Curiosity Satchel: This is the perfect classic bag that you would have forever (and is on sale!)
Seven: Madewell The Suede Sidewalk Skimmers: These are classic and versatile, plus they look comfortable!
Eight: Kate Spade Essex Scout: I've been in love with this handbag since the first moment it came out, I really really want it.

Thanks so much Gabrielle for inviting me to your blog! Hope you're having a lovely time!

Thanks for visiting Gaby! The Curiosity Satchel has got me hooked!

Delightful Daily: Subtle Christmas Spirit and a Whole Lotta Gorgeous!

All I Want for Christmas: Victoria of Vmac+Cheese

What can I say about Victoria… She is like my sister from another mother. I think something she told me recently best sums it up: “are you sure we're not living in some alternate universe where you are me and i'm you and we just live on the opposite sides of the world?Uhm yea, I’m pretty sure that’s correct! We’re freakishly similar in some respects and we’re definitely kindred-spirits!

Victoria is an incredibly talented and driven woman AND she is the nicest most approachable person on the blogosphere. Her blog Vmac + Cheese is chocka-block full of inspiration. If you’re not following her right now, you’re missing out.  It's an honor to present her 2011 Christmas wishlist.

Thanks so much to Gab for having me here today while she enjoys her holiday at home! I'm happy to be sharing my holiday wishlist, which surprisingly enough, was fairly easy to put together. Maybe I shouldn't admit this, but I keep a bit of a running list of things I lust after throughout the year! To be fair, this is mostly because this time of year rolls around, and I know there are things I've had my list, but if I don't make a note of it somewhere, I completely forget what they are. Anyone else have this problem?

This year's list reflects both my personal style, and also some hobbies I'm interested in working on. Here it is! My 2011 wishlist:

1. I always put a coffee table book or two on my list, and these two are definite musts for me this year.
2. I'd love to get a Bamboo tablet to use with Photoshop...the graphics possibilities are endless!
3. My Canon DSLR is great, but sometimes, it's a bit large and I wish I had a high quality point-and-shoot to throw in my bag and not fuss over. The Panasonic Lumix is amazing because you can switch out the lens and still meter photos, and all at an amazing price!
4. I have had my eye on these faux fur throws from Restoration Hardware. If I don't get one for Christmas, you can bet this will be a present to myself!
5. Totally in love with this blinged-out chunky chain bracelet from J.Crew.
6. Ok, so I don't actually want Rosetta Stone. I already have some different at-home language learning programs, and I never remember to use them. What I'd really love is a series of French lessons! If I had a class to go to, I have a feeling I'd be a little more serious about it.
7. Last year, I was gifted a 50mm lens for my DSLR and was heartbroken when it broke a few months later. I haven't replaced it yet...maybe second time's a charm? This version looks a bit more robust than my previous.
8. I spotted these amazing Armani boots in store the other day and it was love at first sight. This is what I like to call a "yeah right" gift. As in, yeah right anyone is going to give them to me.
9. More reasonable would be a nice sweater, again from J.Crew (it's my fave, obviously). I'm loving their new "honeycomb" sweaters -- the weave is so pretty!
10. I recently got a whiff of DVF's new perfume, Diane, and it's divine. Nothing beats a pretty bottle of perfume!

Thanks again for having me today, Gab! Cheers to a fun, safe and happy holiday for all. (And if you have a bit of time, be sure to say on my blog, vmac+cheese!)

xoxo,

Thanks for visiting Victoria! Hope you get those French lessons so we can chat en Français! X

All I Want for Christmas: Tobe of Because It's Awesome

You might recall my recent visit to Tobe’s blog Because it’s AwesomeWell Tobe was nice enough to return the favor, and she's here today talking about her Christmas wish list. I couldn’t be more honored to have her here! I’ve raved about this girl before. Trust me: you need to be following her!
hi, savvy readers! tobe from because it's awesome here. i am incredibly honored to be here sharing my dream list for this holiday season! without further ado:
for months, i've been coveting emersonmade's tweed blazer. classic and clean cut, it's perfectly paired with denim or just the right little black dress // this vintage ikat cushion will go quite nicely with my someday couch // and these gorgeous rams head bookends won't be far away, displayed proudly on my bookshelf! // growing up, my parents had a gorgeous waterford crystal decanter set that i eyeballed (even before i knew how delicious the contents were!). now that i'm grown, i'd love to start a collection of my own // apparently, marc jacobs can do no wrong. i've been looking to upgrade my handbag collection to some higher quality beauties. this one would be a great start! // from the moment i laid eyes on this j.crew coat, i haven't been able to stop thinking about it. the majestic purple in such a ladylike cut is playful and classy all at the same time // * dream alert * these valentino flats might never be mine, but that doesn't mean i don't dream of a day i could sport them! // these gorgeous kate spade earrings are perfect for adding a punch of color to my otherwise neutral uniform // as i begin to decorate my new home (yippee!!!), i have an eye out for beautiful pieces to don my walls. this abstract by caroline wright is tops on my list.

thanks, Gabrielle, for letting me share my wishlist this season! hope you're enjoying your vaca! ox

Delightful Daily: The Bluest of Blues

Guest Post: I Love my City on Simply Irresistible

Today I’m visiting Lara from Simply Irresistible. You may remember her from this delightful Christmas wish list posted recently? I’m excited to be sharing what I love about my city because not many people know much about Adelaide.

Sure it’s a bit on the small side, but the surveys don’t lie: Adelaide is one of the most liveable places on earth, and on the happiest cities! I’m sure you will understand why when you read all about it and while you’re visiting, please linger around Lara’s blog, it is truly a gem!

See you there! X

Guest Post: Decorating with Because it's Awesome!

Today I’m visiting Tobe from Because it’s Awesome and giving her a little break while she is settling into her new home. If you don't know Tobe, she is an incredibly talented graphic designer and oozes style and charm. Our taste is very similar: think classic with animal prints, jewel tones, a dash of mid-century and lots of textures, art and books!

Beyond being a blogger and a talented graphic designer and lettering artist she is also the proud co-creator of the I Am Project. You can buy all the prints on her Etsy shop. I’m telling you, this girl does it all! Today I will be helping Tobe with a little inspiration and a few decorating tips for her new house!

Come visit for the full thing! X

Delightful Daily: Splatters Galore

All I Want for Christmas: Lara of Simply Irresistible

I told you I was leaving you in good hands while I'm in Canada. Today kicks off a two week guest series of Christmas wish lists and the first one is brought to you by Lara of Simply Irresistible. I recently discovered Lara’s blog and I am hooked! Her blog is exactly that: simply irresistible. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I found out that it was only 6 months old! Don’t let that fool you. Her blog is inspirational and incredibly well curated! In a short 6 months, she’s racked up an impressive following and a recipe book to rival Julie & Julia’s. AND she has an Etsy shop where she sells the most delightful art! Watch out for this girl, she’s going places!
I look at holiday gift lists as a way to (politely) ask for some of the things that you want, but would never buy for yourself. While some of the items below are a tad on the extravagant side (I'm talking about you, Mr. Louis Vuitton), I would be JUST as happy receiving something on the smaller side. A cookbook and some fun hot cocoa would brighten up any snowy January night. Hope this list helps in putting your list together or shopping for some friends!
10. Something Fancy to Sip

Thank you so much for participating Lara, I'm off to buy some sparkly nail polish and a pair of red pants! X

Delightful Weekend

via Rue Mag

I’m off to the snow!

The time has come ladies and gents. As you’re reading this I’m probably on a long-haul flight taking me from Adelaide to Sydney to Los Angeles to Atlanta to Montreal in 30 excruciatingly long hours. With this said, I’m either sleeping, watching a chick flick, on laughing my ass off reading this book.

Anyhow, I won’t bore you any longer with the joys of traveling, or with my huge excitement about spending Christmas at home, but let me say this: Things might be slightly sporadic around here, as I spend my time catching up with friends, dining out to all my favorite locales, decorating the Christmas tree, baking our famous Scotch Cakes, overeating, snowboarding, playing backgammon with my mom, drinking wine, ice skating on the lake, or taking long walks in the white forest. I might not reply to comments or emails as religiously and my Twitter might start growing spider webs… However, I have planned a few fun things to keep you entertained while I’m gone which I know you will enjoy!

Montreal in Winter via Velvet Palette

So please bear with me, and most importantly, enjoy your Holidays too! I will be back in January! X

Delightful Daily: Time to Relax!

All I Want for Christmas: Cream of the Crop

Of course I've saved the best for last. This is the cream of the crop of gifts that I would LOVE to see under the tree. I'm like a man with a TV when in comes to computers... the bigger the screen, the better. This imposing 27" iMac has been on my radar for quite some time now... As for the iPad, it would simply put me out of my misery during 20-hour flights and would be perfect to read blogs in bed! And the Kitchenaid? Just imagine what magic I could whip up in the kitch with that baby!

1. Hudson bay Point Blanket: This little piece of Canadian history would fit perfectly in my Australian home. Perfect for cuddling on cold winter days, or just having a little piece of my heritage at home!
2. Tara Jarmon Escarpins Cuir Violet: My Tara Jarmon heels are the most comfortable shoes I've ever owned. So naturally if I had to choose a pair of shoes for Christmas, they would be Tara Jarmon. These plum pumps would do just fine.
3. iPad: Just imagine how much bloggy work I could get done if I had an iPad to entertain me on my 20 hour flight! To me that's a good enough reason.
4.  Kitchenaid: I would kill to get my hands on one of those! The only problem is, with all the new colors, I can't choose a color! Any thoughts?
5. iMac with 27" Screen: At the top of my yeah-right list is a fully decked iMac 27", priced at a modest $2199. No but seriously, can you believe the 5-year old Macbook I blog on everyday has a serious typing lag and doesn't have a battery, amongst a myriad of other annoyances? Maybe this will be my gift to myself this year. I deserve it!
6. Leather Butterfly Chair: Another big one on my ever-growing list, is a classic butterfly chair. All I ask is that the frame be black and the cover tan leather.

Delightful Daily: Soft Pastels and Neons

All I Want for Christmas: Under $200

I apologize if this post seriously lacks the interior touch of the blog, but that's just how it's come to be! Maybe it's just an awkward price bracket, maybe I was just momentarily obsessed with perfume, I don't know. I also apologize for not escaping the Clairsonic frenzy this year. I'm just really curious.

PS - If you decide to purchase any of these perfumes, you can thank me later. I should mention that I'm on a mission to find myself a fragrance whilst in the US.

1. Clairsonic: It seems to be the gift of the season and I'm no exception having succumbed to its glowing skin promises! This exfoliating gadget gets nothing but raving reviews. Why not try it out?
2.  L'artisan Parfumeur L'eau D'ambre: Ok so I haven't really narrowed down my L'artisan Parfumeur scent yet, but I love their perfumes and they work with my skin, which is REALLY rare for me. They also have small nomadic spritzers for traveling for $25 which I think is a brilliant idea!
3. Persol Acetate Sunglasses: I tried these sunnies on the way to Paris in the Adelaide airport and I've been obsessed with them ever since. I suppose I don't really need a second pair of sunnies, but I wouldn't say no to them either!
4. Armani Privé Collection: Forget Aqua di Gio, Armani Privé is the fragrance you need! Ok I don't need the entire collection, but the scents of the Armani Privé collection are divine. My favorite is Bois d'Encens.
5. Diane Von Furstenberg Night 5 Piece Gold Place Setting: So it's no secret that gold is back in style, and I would love a set of gold cutlery for those special occasions. This DVF set is stylish and reasonably priced.

All I Want for Christmas: Under $100

Here is installment two of my giant Christmas wish list. I'm not sure what prompted me to put together such an extensive Christmas gift wish list. Once I started, I just couldn't stop!! Don't get me wrong, I'm blessed with an incredible surrounding of friends and family, but I'd be kidding myself if I was hoping to get even a quarter of everything that's on this monster of a list! Oh well, it was a bit of fun to put together and hopefully, it will give you some gift ideas too!

1. Escheveria in Gold Ceramic: Ok it doesn't have to be this exact one, but I do love succulents and I wouldn't mind displaying them in gorgeous gold ceramics like this one. Or any ceramic really. Or just give me the succulent. I'll find a pot for it.
2.  Fornasetti Plate: If you've been following me for a while, you would know that I have an unhealthy obsession with everything Fornasetti. Give me anything: a plate, a pillow, a coaster, I don't care! As long as it has the soprano's famous face on it.
3.  Timex Easy Reader Watch: Here's another thing I don't really need: another watch! But who knew Timex made such nice watches for $61! Come on. They're practically giving them away!
4. J.Crew Cashmere lined leather gloves: Cashmere, leather, and an irresistible color. What more could you want in a pair of gloves? These J.Crew gloves come in a range of colors and they would surely keep me very warm during my trip to Canada!
5. Murchison-Hume Complete Pack: I'm totally obsessed with these delightful smelling all natural all organic cleaning products from Murchison-Hume. From laundry soap to boys bathroom cleaner, the entire set is available on Temple & Webster for a limited time at 50% off!
6. Juliette & Company Dos Papillon Necklace: I feel my wardrobe is in desperate need of a chunky, pearly, edgy choker, to mix with my collection of boat neck marinières. Lucky I won a new marinière to add to my collection today thanks to Colleen of Inspired to Share and StyleMint. Back to the necklace, this one would be perfect and who could say no at just $80?
7. Graphic Image Envelope Crocodile Leather Embossed iPad Case: Ok so I don't technically have an iPad, though it may appear on a later list... I just can't enough of those gorgeous croc envelope iPad cases. Worst case scenario? I could use it as a clutch just fine.

What are your favorite picks under $100?
