Color Palette: Art to Decor

Yesterday I found myself inspired by the power of colors, which got me thinking about ways to find color inspiration.

One of my favorite ways to find color inspiration for a room is to take one object: a painting, a fabric, a  tray, a rug, an outfit; and to extract the color scheme to serve as inspiration for the whole room. Once you have the basic color palette, you can play on tones, make them lighter or darker, and play with accent versus dominant colors.

Here's a color scheme extracted from one of my favorite paintings lately by the talented Michelle Armas.

As soon as I created the color palette, it hit me. Does it remind you of a certain room?  It's toned down with a few variations of course, but the essentials are all found in Amanda Nisbet's office: citrine, coral, teal, moss green...

Thoughts? What are your favorite ways of finding color inspiration for your decors?
