House Crush: A Successful Transformation

By still my heart, this house transformation by J. Randall Powers in the latest Architectural Digest ticks all the right boxes. It's precisely what I call traditional with a twist. A bit of classic, a bit of modern, a dash of quirk.

I know you're meant to save the best for last but I couldn't help but share the "pièce de résistance" first.

O.M.G. Right? I don't even have words. I have never ever seen something so perfect. The grasscloth ceiling, olive green built ins, brass chandelier, the rug, the John Dickinsonesque table. I'm. just. floored.

First the layering of the rugs in this room is brilliant. Actually the navajo rug is simply exquisite. Then there's the trim on the white armchair. So fun right? Must do this to my sofa. Then there's the sublime art, grasscloth walls and charcoal velvet sofas. Seriously, could a girl ask for more?

And then you have the kitchen. Shut the front door. High gloss black floors with lacquered teal and glass cupboards? Not to mention the marble backsplash and the yellow leather Milo Baughman chairs.

What do you think?

  4. I could live every day in that yummy kitchen. Beautiful, beautiful. BUT. Where do you chop and prepare? Beauty vs. function?
