Delightful Daily: Classic Eclectic

Guest Post: Brighten's My Day

Hi peeps! I'm redirecting you to Brighton's blog this morning where I'm sharing the 9 things that brighten my day. Can you guess what they are?

Brighton is a sweet as pie Texan girl currently living in New Orleans. She loves fashion and typography, but she's also a super smart CPA and a Stella & Dot stylist!

I love participating in this kind of series because it forces me to open up about my day-to-day life, something that I've come to realize I'm not particularly good at, and frankly I should do a little more. What do you think?

Off you go.

Delightful Weekend: Poolside Dreams

Worthy Links: 26.01.13

It's Australia Day today so I can't help but feel a little nostalgic about this beautiful country I used to call home... Which is why I smiled when I stumbled upon this picture of Nicole swimming the Great Barrier Reef in my favorite J.Crew bikini.

Meanwhile it's still cold here. This week was brutal but whatever, we survived. At least I got to go snowboarding before the cold front, and the weather gave me an excuse to get back into bikram yoga. Who can say no to a 40 degree room when it's -40 outside? That's celsius by the way. Many people cringe just at the thought of bikram, but it's a great workout and it works for me. Maybe I just love the heat.

Erica gave us a stylist's tip to fake pinch pleat curtains.

My own little piece of Alt: three great reasons to get organized online.

Irene convinced me I may need to do a pit stop at the Hotel Bel Air while in California.

Nicole introduced us to Agathe de Baillencourt.

Happy weekend all!

Beauty in the Details: Cozying Up the Bedroom

Days like these are the ones where you just want to crawl up in a ball (or climb in a warm bath) and not move for a week! They are the coldest days of winter. -40 real feel over here. And nothing is better than a cozy room when it’s cold outside.

So crank up the heat, wrap up in your favorite throw blanket, light your favorite candle (mine is a Ralph Lauren Holiday candle – smells like leather, cinnamon and cloves) and find out what makes this bedroom extra cozy.

House Crush: Malibu State of Mind

With the winter temperatures at an all time low this week, I'm hanging for my upcoming California trip more than ever. In fact, let's be honest: I should just pack up and move there. Like, today.

All this scheming brought me to look at Californian real estate over on Bungalux and guys, I found it. The dream home. Unfortunately, I don't quite have $75m sitting in the ol' bank account and I'm not sure the banks would readily hand me that kind of mortgage, ever.

So here's to dreaming: a Malibu masterpiece by (favorite) architects Ferguson & Shamamian in collaboration with (another favorite) interior designer Michael S. Smith - you know, the guy who designed the White House.

Check out more of F&S's projects on Bungalux.

I think I may have a case of the winter blues, because I'm finding myself completely drawn to summery images like this Camille Rowe for Nordstrom campaign. This also really reinforces the fact that I need to get my hands on a pair of polarized Ray-Bans for this summer. I tried a pair while in Florida and instantly felt 1000x cooler.

In the meantime I'll day dream about my upcoming California trip and enjoy some fun in the sun this weekend while snowboarding at Jay Peak Resort with my polarized snow goggles. Not quite the same. But almost.

I have apparently been sheltered from Shelter since the beginning of times, but Lindsay showed me the light.

I nearly fell off my chair when I read Sarah's announcement. Congrats to you lady!

Brighton shared the Nordstrom campaign I've been obsessing over for two days.

Meg overthrew the blogosphere by launching a gorgeous line of t-shirts.

And Meredith cracked me up.

Not a bad week, Any exciting plans for the weekend peeps?

Beauty in the Details: A Lesson in Downsizing

This week I want to dissect the room above on Damask & Dentelle, because it shows that you can live stylishly in a super-snug space and it provides inspiration and ideas for doing so.

This room is actually a tiny studio on NYC’s Upper East Side and is the home of Matthew Kowles, who’s also the general manager of Charlotte Moss Interior Design. He calls it his “own little suite at the Ritz”.

Delightful Daily: Green with Envy

House Crush: Nancy Boshardt's NYC Digs

Nancy Bosdhardt is an interior designer, and was in fact once working under Bunny William. I wasn't familiar with her work prior to this New York Social Diary article but she won be over with her house alone.

Her gorgeous NYC apartment overlooks the Museum of Natural History plays a perfect balance between light and dark. Or, as I like to say, there are sunny day rooms and rainy day rooms.

I'm dying over the library Zuber wallpaper and the chandelier by Marvin Alexander. In fact, I'm dying over this whole room and the adjacent bath which is boasting the same green color palette.

There are many more beautiful rooms in this home. Check them out on NYSD.

Let's see. This week was the season finale of Million Dollar Decorators. Someone really needs create a 24 hour channel dedicated to that show because I really can't get enough of JAM and MUMS (and the 10,000 pug rolls).

This week I also started my second to last graduate semester: 11 weeks to go. I was delighted to be included in Hella Wella's Top 25 Home Blogs of 2012 alongside industry giants like Apartment Therapy and Design Sponge! Finally, I jumped on Blogfest tickets like my life depended on it. Looks like I'm LA-bound in March! Yippee!

Ok, time to go unwind in the country. But first, this week's links:

For all husbands and boyfriends: Frank & Oak is the Birchbox of menswear. And it's a Montreal startup!

I discovered Shoeboxed, an app for organizing receipts - fantastic if you're self employed!

Naomi shared the secrets of designing around a red sofa.

Chairloom won over my heart with this pair of benches.

Bradley went to Harbour Island. Le Sigh.

Have a great weekend!

Beauty in the Details: Achieving a Bright and Cozy Room

I decided to shake things up in my posts on Damask & Dentelle and I'm loving the new direction!

Here's the idea: when I find an interior that I really love, I can literally spend a good 20 minutes analyzing every little detail of the room: what makes the room successful, what kind of lighting is used, what are the color patterns… I thought I’d share those details with you in a new series called Beauty in the Details (working title).

I'm kicking off the series with this gorgeous room by Carrier & Co. I can't get enough of it. Find out the 10 reasons why I'm loving this room on Damask & Dentelle.

I'd love to have your thoughts on this new series! Love it? Hate it?

Delightful Daily: Tickled Pink

House Crush: A Star Studded Past

Thank god my seatbelt was securely fastened as I was perusing the latest issue of Architectural Digest on my way to Palm Beach a few weeks ago because I would've fallen out of my seat.

This "spanish colonial meets subdued hollywood regency" Los Angeles home lived through a long line of Tinseltown fame; counting John Wayne, Humphrey Bogart, Marlene Dietrich, Marilyn Monroe, Arthur Miller and John F. Kennedy among its regular guests.

It was restored and brought back to life by one of my favorite LA firms, Commune (also responsible for The Ace Palm Springs and the Standard Hotel) who thankfully went to meticulous lengths to preserve some of the vestiges left by original decorator Billy Haines, such as the wall of antique mirrors that surround the fireplace.

My highlights? The stenciled walls in the sitting room, the living room everything, the master bath mosaic and of course the pool! What's your favorite aspect of the house?

Check out the rest of the house or the original decor published in AD in 1978!
